Eline Slagboom about the exposition

"Eat less, live more… and pray for beans. The first part of this title is derived from one of the studies of the Netherlands Consortium for Healthy Ageing, the Growing Old Together Study. In Dutch: Samen oud, Samen thuis.

In previous studies we investigated people afflicted with a special trait: familial longevity. These people appear to have an extraordinary healthy metabolism for their age. We wonder whether less food intake and more exercise can help their partners, which are not having this trait of familial longevity, to resemble their long living partners regarding the healthier metabolism. That would be good news: Grow old together, with more quality of live!

Cath and Zack got inspired by this experiment and by our story about Bartje: ik bid nie veur brune bonen! and incorporated this in their Artwork about old eating habits of the Dutch people and sustainable healthy future diets.

Although the Growing Old Together study just started and the last scientific word about eating beans as a protein substitute for meat has not been spoken yet, we certainly embrace the title of this project as a desirable way to go forward, also based on our study. I'm happy to hang the neon light with this title in the coffee corner of my department at the LUMC after this exposition has ended."

Screaming old woman at an empty butcher's shop: no meat available

Is a boring plate of 100% beans the alternative? We, as Dutch people, have a complicated relation with beans...  Like in the Dutch book 'Bartje': "I do not pray for brown beans!"

Fortunately, we get 'food aid' from India (parachutists) where the chefs know how to handle beans and cook a healthy and appealing dish.
